We have exclusive caretaker and hunting rights to over 40,000 acres of private mountain ranches and over 100,000 acres of eastern plains ranches that provide exceptional harvest opportunities for elk, mule deer, and mountian lion.

We are Colorado elk hunting guides. OutWest Guides offers quality wilderness elk hunts from horseback. Chances of connecting with branch-antlered bulls are excellent. We offer drop camps, semi-guided hunts, fully guided wilderness hunts, and comfortable lodge hunts! In recent years we have seen our elk herd grow an increasing number of sizeable bulls, and the numbers of elk in our area are terrific.

Colorado has more elk than any other state with a population of around 250,000 animals. Game managers in Colorado have a long-term management plan to reduce the numer to 188,000 elk. With the population slowly being reduced, Colorado is still the number one state for hunters pursuing elk.

Colorado has not been a state to go hunt if you are looking for a monster bull elk, but some of the limited draw units have been producing some huge bulls. Like any other great elk hunt, the tags are tough to draw, but offer the patient hunter a great opportunity for harvesting a big bull. If you aren't after that huge trophy bull, Colorado has plenty of other elk hunting opportunities. Tags are available over the counter in many areas giving hunters a great chance of filling the freezer. High numbers and plenty of opportunites for hunting make Colorado the top choice for hunting elk.
