Big Antler Outfitters
Moose | Whitetail Deer | Black Bear | Waterfowl | Contact Us
Big Antler Outfitters offers both Spring and Fall hunts for Black Bear (also color-phases cinnamon and blond), Moose, Whitetail Deer and Waterfowl out of the North Interlake region of Manitoba, Canada. Big Antler specializes in bow and rifle trophy hunts. Owner Ron Chekosky is a life time resident of the area and been in operation for 20 years. His background includes farming, trapping, flying and his competitive nature has provided him the 'edge', so essential in this business.
Ron's love of the outdoors has enabled him to harvest many big game animals which include Pope & Young (P&Y) deer, bear, elk and three bull moose. He has also hunted throughout North America for mule deer, grizzly bear and cougar. These experiences have provided him the insight and challenge for commitment to the effort required to produce quality trophy hunts.
MOOSE HUNTS
Our moose hunting in Manitoba is conducted in remote Northern areas accessible by air craft only. Big Antler Outfitters is assigned a quota in an exclusive area, in turn regulating the harvest to trophy quality bulls. We take a limited number of clients per year and hunt only during the peak of the rut. This maximizes your opportunity of a lifetime memory, a bull moose grunting up to a call. Both bow and rifle hunters can experience the rush of having a bull come from two miles grunting up to ten yards of the caller.
Our 2006 moose season saw us go 9 for 11 with some great bulls over 50”. Our largest was 57” that scored 198 B/C. Great season thanks to some super guides ~~~ Kudos!! Bookings for '07 and '08 are now taking place.
With our plane in camp, meat and trophy are taken to freezer facilities allowing the hunter to enjoy his hunt to the fullest.
Once again the moose are called to us, allowing the elderly or physically limited hunter the opportunity to harvest a trophy.

WHITETAIL DEER HUNTS
The North Interlake Region of Manitoba continues to be a premier spot for trophy whitetail bucks. The area consistently produces a high ratio of Pope & Young (P&Y) and Boone & Crockett (B&C) typical and non-typical bucks. Ron Chekosky and guides, being lifetime residents and full time operators, have insight to deer population and their movements.
Our pre-rut and rut hunts allow archery, muzzle loader and rifle hunters their best opportunies for success. With our enclosed portable tree stands set in areas of scrape and travel routes, shooting is usually at close range. Ground blinds are also available. Horn rattling and deer calling are very productive with our high buck-to-doe ratio. Many hunters enjoy their first opportunity to rattle in their own bucks after a short learning session from our staff. Lifetime memories of deer coming into a rattling sequence are the 'norm' with us at Big Antler Outfitters.
Our area, located on the fringe of agriculture, has us hunting the big bush, accessing remote areas never before hunted. Our complete line of modern equipment provides us access to these remote pockets of deer, which has produced quality bucks for the past fifteen years.
Horn mass and body size is a quality that convinces most seasoned whitetail hunters to return and hunt with us year after year.
Being accomplished bowhunters, myself and staff have the insight to set stands in prime locations which offer our hunters the best opportunity for harvesting P&Y deer.
In the past three years, we have also been able to take trophy animals with the introduction of a muzzle loader season. This season has become very popular, with the close range shooting we offer. Accommodations for all whitetail hunts is the choice of the hunter. Our main lodge, modern cabins or remote tent camps have all proven very successful over the years. A quick call to some of the references may help you decide.

BLACK BEAR HUNTS
With more than two million exclusive acres to operate in, we are able to maintain an excellent success rate of trophy black bears. The quota system, area size and our baiting program guarantees sightings at close range. Archery setups are between nine to sixteen yards and rifle setups fifteen to forty five yards. At these distances size and hide condition are easily determined. With our hunt groups being four or five hunters, personal attention and effort to detail are the 'norm'.
Our area produces brown, cinnamon and blond phases of black bear. 2006 offered 100% opportunity at harvesting a legal bear. Our past seasons have been exceptional with five Boone & Crockett (B&C) and dozens of P&Y. We have consistently harvested record book bears and pride ourselves in that statistic. Our references will attest to these results.
With some bait sights located in remote areas, accessed by a two to three hour ride into the 'bush' using a 6x6 ATV or an 8 wheel drive swamp machine, our efforts usually result in lifetime memories. Multiple active baits per hunter allow movement during the week increasing your opportunity to harvest a quality bear. We are confident our successes will continue with our focused efforts and aggressive baiting program.
Our program provides opportunities for the youth, physically handicapped and the more seasoned hunter to obtain a memorable trophy bear. We are also available for video work, size indication or security as part of our services. This option has proved popular.

WATERFOWL HUNTS
For decades the Northern Interlake of Manitoba has been one of the major flyways for waterfowl and overall migration numbers continue to grow. This flyway contains countless species of waterfowl for the hunters and we specialize in quality shooting over decoys. Snow, Blue Ross Geese and all the various species of Canadian Geese can be found here. Most varieties of duck are found in this region with more than a dozen species shot in an average season on our hunts. Waterfowl limits per day consist of 20 Snow Geese, 8 Ducks and 5 Canadian Geese.
Being the first agricultural area that these waterfowl arrive at from the North finds the birds very willing to decoy. Our proper equipment and large spreads of shell and big foot Canadian decoys enable us to pull birds into decoying shots day after day.
With leases on area fields and our own fields, we have produced some of the greatest shoots year after year. We are able to control some of the birds by rotating fields daily. This 'resting' of the fields has allowed for better quality decoying and gives the field a chance to rebuild in numbers of waterfowl. We also have one of the sweetest duck ponds on our land allowing for afternoon and evening limits of ducks.
