River Country Outfitters
Black Bear Hunts | Fishing | Contact Us
My name is Darrell Mack. My wife Candace and I own and operate River Country Outfitters out of The Pas, Manitoba, along the scenic Saskatchewan River. I have more than 26 years combined experience hunting and guiding in various locations in Northern Manitoba.
My licensed guide, Brian also has over 21 years of experience hunting and fishing. Our prices are about the best in Manitoba, and our hunting success rate is high. Bear size and color is excellent also. We hunt for black bear with muzzle loader, rifle or bow. Come and experience the adventure of a lifetime. We give friendly Manitoba a whole new meaning.
BLACK BEAR HUNTS
We offer both Spring and Fall hunts for bear. Our camp is in MGHA 8, off the Saskatchewan River, in the Kelsey Lake area. The area has only been hunted for the last 9 years. This combined with the vast remoteness of the area makes for a higher percentage of large bears, 30% of which are colored.
Breakfast starts at 8 am. After breakfast, you can sharpen your aim with some target practice, go fishing for some tasty walleye, or just relax until about 2 pm. Between 4-5 pm you and your guide will be in a boat heading out to one of the baits. You will be in your stand by 5:30 pm. Your guide will walk you to your stand and make sure you are set. Most of our stands are only 75-150 yards from the river. If you need a guide to stay with you on your stand, let us know ahead of time so that we can make arrangements.

FISHING
Fish for Walleye and Northern Pike during the day. Combination packages are available for bear/trout also.
The abundance of water and the rich variety of fish species stage The Pas and the surrounding area for some of the best sport fishing opportunities in both summer and winter months. A total of 66 fish species are known to inhibit the water bodies of the area. It has been identified that the most abundant and widespread sport and commercial fish species in the area are walleye, lake trout, lake whitefish, northern pike, cisco, white sucker, burbot and yellow perch. Other sport and commercial species that are less abundant but may still be widely distributed throughout the area include goldeye, sucker, and sauger. The region boasts some of the most legendary trophy fishing lakes in Manitoba such as Clearwater Lake, Cormorant Lake and Athapapuskwa Lake. The Grass River and the Saskatchewan River also offer excellent fishing opportunities for walleye, northern pike, lake sturgeon, sucker, burbot, etc.
Clearwater Lake is well known for its year-round trophy lake trout fishing. In general, trout population spread throughout the lake in spring and fall, and in the deeper holes during summer. Known as the "dwellers of the deep", lake trout usually moves to colder temperatures as the spring sun warms the waters. While light casting or spinning gear is suitable for the early months, you'll need to go deeper and drop your lure lower, using either bait or artificial lures to catch the "king" as the summer progresses. Walleye fishing is also very popular and highly prized in the region due in part to its delicacy and in part to its abundance in supply. Walleye prefer the deep and cooler waters. Narrow channels and deep water weed beds are among the hiding spots these fish prefer. Remember, where there's one, there's usually a school of walleye ready to take a variety of artificial lures and natural baits.
Come and join the pursuit for Manitoba's Master's award under the Province's unique Master Angler program. Each year anglers enter and record their catch, challenging themselves to step up through the bronze, silver and specialist badge rankings to earn gold and Grand Master recognition. Twenty-eight species of fish are eligible, with each ranking having its own set of catch requirements. For more info on Manitoba's Master Angler Program, call toll free 1-800-665-0040.
